The saga of the floor

Finally, finally, finally I should be getting my new wood floor fitted in the next two weeks.  I picked the floor 5 years ago.

The problem .... my brother used to fit floors so I'm not prepared to pay a stranger to fit it, I decided to wait until my brother could fit it.  Years after year I waited but as family I was always bottom of the list.

Flash forward to May 2011, the floor fitting was all arranged for the first week in July.  Woo hoo.  Ummm no.  That's when the company I used to work for announced my job was at risk.  So ever sensible (ha ha ha) I decided that spending money on the floor was silly if the mortgage payment might be at risk later in the year.

Now with new job and some redundancy money in the bank I went in the January sales and visited my floor.  It is massively reduced so to get the savings the family advise "buy now".  A January filled with paper scrapping, plastering, painting etc etc is now ongoing in preparation for the arrival of the floor.

Now the only risk is bad weather or plan changes from my brothers baby mama. Fingers crossed!

Here's Star and Sasha giving the old carpet some goodbye hugs :0)

Banks a lot

Woo hoo, my remortgage is complete!

BUT my bank has added my mortgage to my Internet banking so every time I log on to check my current account balance, pay a bill etc etc I see how much I owe on my mortgage.

Bit depressing don't you think!

Have to choose a vacuum cleaner :0)

Not having the greatest weekend here in Mrs Midnite's pad.  Mr Midnite is off somewhere for the weekend and I'm trying to save cash so having a quite weekend with a plan to clean in advance of the invasion next weekend.

So was happily (sarcasm, I think so) cleaning the kitchen when I went to fill the sink, no hot water.  Investigation showed the pilot light was out.  Searched for the instructions, found them, followed them and still no pilot light.  Read the entire manual to discover there is a reset switch in case the boiler over heats.  Pressed it and hey presto we have a pilot light.  I feel some sort of power here.  And Mrs Midnite said "let there be a pilot light" and a pilot light filled the boiler.

Flat Watching

There is a flat across from mine that has me fascinated.

I have lived here almost seven years. I walk my dogs in and out of the door opposite this flat at least five times a day. I quite often notice the flat when I open and close my curtains and have diverted some walks to see whats at the other side.

What I here you ask is so interesting? Is there a hunky man posing in the window? No nothing that exciting.

In seven years I have never seen a light on, the blinds have never opened or changed position and the windows never open.

I started thinking it was an empty flat but seven years? Why would the owner not just sell it or at least rent it out and make some money.

I wondered if it was someone who works nights permanently but I think by now I would have seen a light. We have days when it never gets light and with the blinds permanently closed they would have to put lights on some time.

I started thinking that someone has died in there and that I will get home one day to find police investigating a mummified body that has been there longer than I've lived here. Macabre?

Then I'm wondering vampires, could it be?

It just seems odd. It bugs me. I want to know who lives there or owns it but doesn't use it. It doesn't matter or make any difference to my life but I still want to know.
